Psychosocial Awareness Training
Considered Your Psychosocial Hazards
This is all just about bullying and harassment, right? Everyone signs a paper with HR saying they won’t bully or harass their colleagues and no one ever does! You now have a positive duty to ensure harassment doesn’t occur in your workplace. This means you cannot have a passive approach like a form from HR explaining the terms and asking the staff to simply sign that they understand and will comply.
In addition to this, a new section of the WHS regulations was passed in Australia, adding psychosocial hazards as a workplace hazard. A psychosocial hazard can be anything from inadequate onboarding of new staff, lack of role clarity, role overload, noise and items of plant that disturb a person’s mental cognition, lack of recognition, a poor ‘justice’ system for workers who are not working to capacity or do not follow the Code of Conduct (hopefully you have one!) and many more.

Consultation
Once again, the formation of a psychosocial risk assessment should be conducted with the input of employees or through a Health and Safety Representative (HSR) or committee if your business is made up of different types of workers performing different functions (workgroups), and we can help facilitate the formation of this as well as identify the risks and train staff on the controls.
